Though Halloween has come and gone, there’s always room for more innovative horror games, especially those in VR. Strange Company’s first virtual reality game Left-Hand Path is now available on Steam, and looks perfect for those who want a horror game that takes immersion to the next level. The game requires the use of a VR headset and supports both the HTC Vive and Oculus Touch.

Left-Hand Path is a Dark Souls-inspired VR game where players cast powerful magic spells from the palms of their virtual hands. Players must wield these arcane abilities to take down gruesome enemies while navigating a darkened castle. The game features over 15 hours of single-player content exclusively in virtual reality.

"I designed it to in a way that the story will compel you to finish the game even though your common sense will tell you to stop playing because you no longer have any shit left in your body to be scared out of you," says Left-Hand Path developer Hugh Hancock. "Left-Hand Path is proof that you should be very afraid of things that go bump in the night and hide in the dark."

If you want to experience the game’s story without being scared witless or getting hung up on the game’s Souls-like difficulty, then you can opt for one of two newly added modes: Low-Terror Mode and Story Mode. Hancock has also made a number of improvements to the gameplay and interface based on user feedback during Early Access. You can review the list of changes in the developer’s launch announcement

Left-Hand Path is a room-scale VR game, which means it’s not intended to be a seated experience. You’ll need to clear out enough room to move around as you cast spells and roam about the game’s ominous environment.

“This is not your grandma’s VR,” warns Hancock. “This is a room-scale game only. Prepare to die and try not to soil yourself.”

Left-Hand Path costs $29.99 USD and is available now on Steam with VR support.
