Development of Death Stranding, Hideo Kojima’s first indie game project post-Konami split, continues to progress at a rapid pace. At the 2017 Game Awards, a new trailer was released that got the entire gaming community theorizing and speculating once more.

During that time, Kojima stated that Death Stranding is already playable. Now, according to an interview with Dengeki, the game has passed another milestone and is entering its internal testing phase.

“Ever since December 2016 we had not published new information, and there ought to be many fans who were getting worried or even imagining many things, but please rest assured. Currently, we have surpassed the experiment phase, and by entering the next step, we’re feeling the response to the new gameplay.”

This is good news for fans itching to get their hands on the game. Sadly, a concrete release date has yet to be announced, though Kojima did note at the 2016 Tokyo Game Show that he intends to release the game before 2019.

Whether or not we’ll see a 2018 release date remains to be seen, but considering how quickly development is moving, it’s not out of the realm of possibility.

When the game does eventually release, it'll more than likely be a PlayStation 4 exclusive. In terms of gameplay and lore, Kojima recently did an interview with IGN revealing new details about what players can expect from Death Stranding.

Additionally, we know the game includes an impressive cast featuring the likes of Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), and Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water). It will also reportedly use the Decima Engine featured in Guerrilla's hit IP, Horizon Zero Dawn.

While we wait for more information on the game, what do you think of the news that Death Stranding has entered its internal testing phase? Do you think the game will release before the end of 2018? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments below!
